Finding Firewood

Firewood is always a challenge, especially during wet or wintery conditions. Click for a tip...

Wildland Safety.

Always be prepared for survival situations.

Be Safe Out There. Driving to the trailhead, hiking along the trail or bushwhacking and camping in the backcountry need some special techniques and good equipment. Keep your tent, sleeping bag, backpack and other gear in tip top condition.

Wildlife needs your respect, especially if you are part of their food chain. Learn to incorporate preventative techniques in your normal routine and you’ll not need to be apprehensive while in bear or cougar country.

Safe drinking water is one of your main concerns. Water filters and water purifiers provide safe and convenient water wherever you are.

To fully enjoy the great outdoors you must feel safe and secure. Whether you're new to the wildlands or have spent several years trammeling about, learning or reviewing safety tips is always beneficial.

Be aware of hypothermia whenever in cool, moist windy situations.

So pack up your tent, sleeping bag, and camping gear on your pack frame and get out there.

More about our hiking products:

Tent. The best tent depends on your needs. Our camping tent selection features the backpacking tent or trail tent, but we also offer camping tents suitable for car camping or even pack stock camping. Whatever the season tent selection is important. Camping tents are offered in a variety of sizes—from a 1 person tent to 4 person tents. Some may serve as a family tent. The dome tent is the most popular style. Nothing beats the convenience of a pop up tent, as they are high quality hiking products.

Sleeping bag. Bag sleeping in a tent or under the stars? Whether looking for a mummy bag or a rectangular bag, we have camping sleeping bags to suit your needs. Although the Wenzel Sleeping bag is our most popular, each has a unique set of features, styling and color for your best sleeping bag. Select a winter sleeping bag for moderate to colder temperatures or a light sleeping bag for warmer weather and to pack into a compact size. You’ll find that a down sleeping bag sleeps warmer when wet than a synthetic sleeping bag. You’ll stay warm and dry with our camping sleeping bags. These bags are compact and make for great backpacking products.

Backpack. A good back pack is essential for backpacking or for extended hiking trails. We prefer an internal backpack frame over an external frame. An internal pack frame is made to carry lighter loads for longer distances, is more maneuverable, and provides better balance. The internal frame pack is highly adjustable. The backpack can make or break the backpacking experience, so make sure you have the best backpacking products.

Your hiking and backpacking experience will be enhanced using trekking poles or walking sticks. Trekking poles help transfer weight and strain from the legs, increasing efficiency and reducing fatigue. Walking Poles or hiking staffs provide a safer and more stable platform for steep descents or loose-footing conditions. Trekking poles for hiking, back packing or snowshoeing come in pairs. A walking staff for hiking and travel is a single pole. A simple, inexpensive trekking pole is adequate for beginners and no-frills hikers. For more ambitious, multi-day or longer treks, telescopic hiking poles allow a more efficient hiking or backpacking experience. Any of these can also be used as fitness walking poles. We are your outdoor gear store for trekking poles and walking sticks.

Don’t allow contaminated water to spoil your day (and night). A water filter or water purifier will easily fit in your back pack. We have a good selection of conventional water filters and water purifiers. It has been said “The most dangerous animals are swimming in drinking water.” Microfiltration, activated carbon and ultraviolate treatment can change water from lakes and streams into safe drinking water.

A stove, knife, axe and saw are standard gear for camp chores.

A hand compass should be on your person whenever you venture from the road.
