Wildland Safety.

Always be prepared for survival situations.

Be Safe Out There. Driving to the trailhead, hiking along the trail or bushwhacking and camping in the backcountry need some special techniques and good equipment. Keep your tent, sleeping bag, backpack and other gear in tip top condition.

Wildlife needs your respect, especially if you are part of their food chain. Learn to incorporate preventative techniques in your normal routine and you’ll not need to be apprehensive while in bear or cougar country.

Safe drinking water is one of your main concerns. Water filters and water purifiers provide safe and convenient water wherever you are.

To fully enjoy the great outdoors you must feel safe and secure. Whether you're new to the wildlands or have spent several years trammeling about, learning or reviewing safety tips is always beneficial.

Be aware of hypothermia whenever in cool, moist windy situations.

So pack up your tent, sleeping bag, and camping gear on your pack frame and get out there.

OUTDOOR OPTICS

Outdoor enthusiasts enjoy getting up close and personal with their surroundings. There are times when its not possible or advisable to get close enough. We don’t have the eyes of an eagle, but we can augment our sight using binoculars, spotting scopes, or night vision devices.

We feature the Bushnell line of optics.  A Bushnell binocular is a precision instrument designed to provide many years of pleasurable viewing. Bushnell Outdoor Products has been the industry leader in sports optics & outdoor accessories for over 50 years. Their dedication to emerging technologies, leading edge design and performance innovation is what makes them one of the most reputable and recognized companies in the world.

For those ornithological enthusiasts that have ever used a Bushnell binocular or spotting scope, they would swear that little “B” stands for “birder.” That’s because for over 60 years, Bushnell has been perfecting the art of precision optics to bring you the finest bird watching tools you’ll ever own.

The Safest Way To View Wildlife Is Through Binoculars or Spotting Scopes.

Signs that we are TOO close to wildlife (even if looking thru a glass):

- the animal stops feeding or resting.

- the animal starts moving either towards or away from the hiker.

- the animal starts panting, huffing or making un usual sounds.

- the animal begins pawing the ground or swings its head.

- neck hair or feathers may stand up.

- the animal appears nervous, uneasy or stressed.

If you notice these signs, it is time to change your behavior by moving away from the animal and keeping your distance. Binoculars and spotting scopes appear to get you closer to the critter. But it can be exciting to find evidence that a wild animal recently passed through the area--a feather, a paw print, or scat.
