Winter camping. Just because the calendar says winter, the thermometer says cold, and the landscape looks white is no reason to stay out of the wildlands. For more info…Click here

Finding Firewood

Wildland Safety.

Always be prepared for survival situations.

Be Safe Out There. Driving to the trailhead, hiking along the trail or bushwhacking and camping in the backcountry need some special techniques and good equipment. Keep your tent, sleeping bag, backpack and other gear in tip top condition.

Wildlife needs your respect, especially if you are part of their food chain. Learn to incorporate preventative techniques in your normal routine and you’ll not need to be apprehensive while in bear or cougar country.

Safe drinking water is one of your main concerns. Water filters and water purifiers provide safe and convenient water wherever you are.

To fully enjoy the great outdoors you must feel safe and secure. Whether you're new to the wildlands or have spent several years trammeling about, learning or reviewing safety tips is always beneficial.

Be aware of hypothermia whenever in cool, moist windy situations.

So pack up your tent, sleeping bag, and camping gear on your pack frame and get out there.

Alps Mountaineering Denali Backpack 5500, Olive

BACKPACK DESCRIPTION:
The Denali is a great internal to take along on all your backcountry treks. The Denali was designed with features to make your hike more enjoyable. Beyond the easy to adjust suspension system, front and side pockets, and hydration pocket and port, you can also find auto-adjust load lifters, an internal horizontal divider to arrange your gear, and extra large #10 zippers on the lower door. All of these features will ensure that you’re ready for a successful and organized hike.

The Denali has the Comfort Glide Suspension System. This adjustment system will allow you to adjust to that perfect point. The SoftEdge shoulder straps have 2 layers of foam to give you maximum comfort. The modular waist belts have 2 layers of foam for maximum load carrying capabilities combined with the ultimate in comfort. The Air Mesh on the inside of the belt stretches with the foam so there are no wrinkles to rub against your body.

So now you’re ready for your trip and your pack is full, but you still have a few things to take along … don’t worry! The top of the Denali pack extends with a spindrift collar, so you can “over pack.” The top pocket adjusts up and down to keep it in the correct position and we’ve included an “Over the Top” compression strap to stabilize your extra gear. When it’s time to drop the internal and adventure onto a smaller trail, don’t worry about bringing along an additional small fanny pack, because our top lid converts to a fanny pack.

If that’s not enough, the rain cover is INCLUDED! You don’t have to worry about spending additional money on accessories; you can find it all in the Denali. This internal is a great example of what ALPS Mountaineering is all about…giving you great gear at an affordable price.

FABRICS
• Nylon 210D Double Ripstop Strong and lightweight, this is a great pack fabric. With weight always a concern, we have improved our fabric to be even more lightweight with the same durability.
• 1000D TexNylon When the nylon fibers are texturized, they become more abrasion resistant, making this fabric an excellent choice for the bottoms of packs and other high wear areas.
• Tough Grip A rubberized fabric that provides a "non slip" surface, good for lumbar pads.
• DuraForm Used on our ComfortFit shoulder straps, this "fabric" feels great and is "tough as nails". Because it stretches, it perfectly contours to your shoulders and eliminates wrinkles and puckers that can rub and cause sore spots. The knit covering feels very soft to the touch but is extremely durable for a lifetime of use. It also incorporates a small center section of foam to contour to all areas of your shoulders.
• Spantex Combines a texturized nylon for strength, a "soft" nylon for comfort, and a "stretchable" nylon for a custom fit.
• AV Mesh AV stands for "Air Ventilation", and as the name implies, adds additional comfort because it really vents. The construction of the mesh has some "depth" built into it, which means all of the "holes" in the mesh don't immediately get mashed closed (like other traditional meshes) and remain open to breathe more.

FOAMS
• HDPE High Density Polyethylene. Not really a "foam" but an important part of waist belts and pack backs because it helps to stabilize and distribute weight when carrying heavy loads.
• Atilon The firmest foam we use. It's base material is PE (polyethylene), but unlike normal grades of PE, Atilon has a much better "memory", which allows it to recover to it's original shape after being "squashed" by a piece of webbing, a buckle, or one of your bones! This firm foam is sometimes called "closed cell" foam.
• EVA A firm ("closed cell") foam, but having more memory and recovery than Atilon.
• C2000 A blend of EVA and PE, which makes it "solid" in terms of weight distribution but the EVA gives it great memory and recovery.
• PU Polyurethane, the softest foam we use. Typically referred to as "open cell" foam. It is used on the inside of waist belts for cushioning.

BUCKLES THREAD CONSTRUCTION
• Buckles Like the rest of our components, we only use the best, and with buckles it's National Molding.
• Thread 3 ply Nylon, averaging 8-10 SPI (stitches per inch).
• Internal Frame Stays 6061 aluminum
• Construction Details All inside seams are double sewn and covered with "seam corner binding". All stress points are bartacked (not just backtacked ) at least once. When possible, gussets are used to further distribute the stress over a larger area. All nylon webbing is hot cut to deter raveling. Larger than normal zippers are used (#10 on larger openings #8 on pockets) to lessen the chance for failure. Nickel plated zipper sliders are used for the longest closure life.
